BE BLESSED..

Baraka is a ninety-six minutes non-narrative movie with no plot, no actors and no dialogue. It contains only high quality images of 24 countries and it was directed by Ron Fricke. The title BARAKA means BLESSING. This film includes footage of multiple landscapes, churches, ruins, and cities humming with life.

During the screening of the movie, there was this one particular scene which captivated me and brought me to my attention. It was a scene of Iguassu Falls which is situated in Brazil. Iguassu Falls was listed as one of the new seven wonders of nature.

The scenery was breath-taking and I was completely bewitched by the greens and blues in it. It emerges the sense of calmness inside me and leaves me relaxed and stressed-free.

MEDIA LITERACY

Framework to access, analyze, evaluate and create messages in a variety of forms. That defines MEDIA LITERACY. Sounds complex? In short, Watch carefully, and Think critically. After Hardip's lecture on this topic, I became more aware of the current media and began to evaluate the contents of the media rather than being purely superficial. I began to pay more attention to the slightest details of the subject matter and while i was browsing the Internet, i came across this picture

What are the initial thoughts that went through your mind? What is the first thing you noticed when you see this image? Four people with a prominent and enlarged mouth complimented by an equally well-set of teeth instead of a head? What does it indicate?

This image signifies more than what it appears to be. There must be some message hidden in this picture and a reason to why their heads were being replaced by a giant mouth. From my point of view, I believe that this image is trying to convey a message implying that we as humans talk too much. We only care about our own thoughts and reviews and never really listen to other people's opinions and ideas for once. And that applies to everyone regardless of the gender and age. Furthermore, all four human bodies are suited in white clothing, resulting the four mouths being emphasized more.

The human mouth plays a significant role in communication. It is used to contribute thoughts, expressing emotions and feelings through words and most of all transmitting information to another individual or to the public. We use oral communication to share information and to discuss on the current issues and contents of the media. This picture demonstrated how essential the mouth organ is to humans and how much it has contributed to the media.
This is what I've learned through MEDIA LITERACY. To analyse, understand and interpret media messages and contents.
